Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. NO open flames. Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray, carbon dioxide. EXPLOSION Above 95°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed. Above 95°C use a closed system, ventilation. EXPOSURE PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS! AVOID EXPOSURE OF (PREGNANT) WOMEN! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR! INHALATION Burning sensation. Nausea. Vomiting. Convulsions. Abdominal pain. Diarrhoea. Headache. Sweating. Weakness. Dizziness. Confusion. Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection. Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention. SKIN MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. Burning sensation (see Inhalation). Protective gloves. Protective clothing. Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention. EYES Pain. Redness. Safety goggles, face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor. INGESTION (see Inhalation). Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating. Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention. SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus). Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from strong oxidants, food and feedstuffs. Dry. Ventilation along the floor. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs. TURNS BROWN ON EXPOSURE TO AIR. PHYSICAL DANGERS: CHEMICAL DANGERS: The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic fumes including nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. Reacts violently with strong oxidants. OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs): TLV: 0.5 mg/m3 (as TWA) (skin) (ACGIH 1996). MAK: 0.07 ppm; 0.5 mg/m3; H (1996). ROUTES OF EXPOSURE: The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin, and by ingestion. INHALATION RISK: A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C. EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE: The substance irritates the eyes and the skin. The substance may cause effects on the cardiovascular system and central nervous system , resulting in convulsions and respiratory failure. Exposure far above the OEL may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated. EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE: Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes toxic effects upon human reproduction. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES Boiling point (decomposes): 247°C Melting point: -80°C Relative density (water = 1): 1.01 Solubility in water: miscible Vapour pressure, kPa at 20°C: 0.006 Relative vapour density (air = 1): 5.6 Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20°C (air = 1): 1.00 Flash point: 95°C c.c. Auto-ignition temperature: 240°C Explosive limits, vol% in air: 0.7-4 Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 1.2 ENVIRONMENTAL DATA The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. Avoid release to the environment in circumstances different to normal use. N O T E S Destruxol, XL All Insecticide are trade names.
